The book presents different theoretical approaches to new media art (new media as defined by Lev Manovich) in relation to the contemporary visual culture (discussed in visual studies by W. J. T. Mitchell), to the institution of contemporary art (especially relational aesthetics by Nicolas Bourriaud), to the history of art (developed in the concepts of expanded media and postmedia condition by Peter Weibel) and to the new conditions of contemporary information society (described with references to the culture of "cut and paste" operations and to the realityof the web 2.0 in the writings by Janez Strehovec). The focal point of discussion evolves around the media specificities of film, video and new media objects. The book brings also analyses of new media art projects by three Slovene artists: Srečo Dragan, Jaka Železnikar and Marko Peljhan. |
