Third annual session, Harvard University, 24 June – 18 July, 2013

Following its inaugural sessions in Beijing (2011) and Istanbul (2012), the Institute for World Literature will be held this coming summer at Harvard University. Directed by David Damrosch and an international board of advisers, the program brings together a hundred graduate student and faculty participants from around the world, for an intensive month-long program of seminars, panels, and lectures on the theory and practice of world literature. Our seminar leaders and guest lecturers for the upcoming session are scholars of international reputation closely engaged with teaching and research in this rapidly growing field of study: Susan Bassnett, Homi Bhabha, Helena Buescu, Pascale Casanova, David Damrosch, Theo D’haen, Wai Chee Dimock, Djelal Kadir, Stephen Owen, Nirvana Tanoukhi, Mads Thomsen, and Karen Thornber.

The Institute is supported by Harvard and by a roster of institutions from around the world, as well as by tuition paid by participants. Institutional membership costs $1500 for a year, and guarantees two places in the program for participants at half tuition ($900 instead of the full tuition of $1800). Most of the Institute’s participants come from sponsoring institutions, but applications from non-sponsored participants are welcomed as well. Applications are being accepted from now through February1.
